his study in question is based on the 2015 edition of the Politica y Ciudadania textbook (ISBN#: 978-950-00-1074-0). However, we recently received its 2018 edition (ISBN#: 978-950-46-5612-8) thanks to the University of Virginia Library. Although both textbooks describe Argentina’s history during the 20th century (including the 1980s military coup and economic crisis from the 1990s to 2001) , importance of human rights, meaning of state and power, Argentina’s government organization (judicial, legislative, and executive), this new textbook edition expands these topics in depth.
In contrast to the 2015 edition, this 2018 textbook edition includes noteworthy changes: -Does not repetitively describe government achievements under Nestor, Kirchner (2003-2007) Cristina F. Kirchner (2007-2015), or Mauricio Macri’s (2015-present) presidencies. -Describes Peronism and its evolution throughout history. This includes critics such as the attack on freedom of speech after closing newspapers by decree and expelling faculty members, and the accomplishments such as the women’s right to vote in 1953. -Expands their topics such as the history of Argentinean political parties, and discrimination toward social classes (including xenophobia), natives and Afro-descendant populations, sexism and gender identity. -Does not antagonize American mass media (music, television, and movies) and international institutions (World Bank or International Monetary Fund) as part of their national sovereignty section. |
